The bullock and the he-goat of Yom Kippur were slaughtered on the north side of the altar; their blood was received on the north side in a service vessel, and was to be sprinkled between the staves of the Ark, toward the curtain of the Holy of Holies, and upon the golden altar. The omission of any one of these sprinklings invalidated the sacrifice.
