"text": "On Shabbat and festivals, it is a rabbinic prohibition to walk more than 2000 cubits (slightly more than 3000 ft.) outside the city. One who needs to walk further than this, may establish his “residence” outside the city by placing food for the amount of two meals within 2000 cubits of the city limits, before Shabbat or the festival. One can then walk 2000 cubits from that point in any direction one desires. See Laws, page 607."
