"text": "When saying the Shema, concentrate intently on its meaning. While saying the opening line (שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל), keep in mind that you are accepting God's sovereignty; while saying the first paragraph (וְאָהַבְתָּ), keep in mind that you are accepting the commandment to love God; and while saying the second paragraph (וְהָיָה), keep in mind that you are accepting all of God's commandments. By saying the third paragraph (וַיֹּאמֶר), you are fulfilling the commandment of remembering the Exodus from Egypt."

"text": "1 In these verses, Moses repeatedly conveys God's words in first person, as though they are his own, \"My commandments... I will give rain... I will put grass...\" and so on. This is because Moses was so humble and so dedicated to God that, in the words of the Midrash, \"the Divine Presence spoke from within his throat.\" In other words, Moses was on such a lofty spiritual level that God used him as a medium to speak directly to the Jewish Nation. We can emulate Moses by following the instructions of the Shema and serving God \"with all our heart,\" with complete dedication and subservience.",
