The procedure of each group was the same.</b> <b>After all the groups had left,</b> the Kohanim <b>would wash</b> the floor of <b>the Temple Courtyard because it had become filthy from the blood of</b> the offerings, <b>even</b> if it was <b>Shabbat. How was the washing</b> of the Temple Courtyard <b>done?</b> There was <b>a water channel that ran through the Temple Courtyard, which would flow</b> out <b>through an exit</b> at the Water Gate. <b>When they wanted to wash the floor</b> of the Temple Courtyard, <b>they would block the exit,</b> causing the water level to rise and <b>fill</b> the channel to <b>its brim on both sides, until it would overflow and flood the floor on both sides</b> of the channel. The water would <b>gather all the blood and dirt on</b> the floor of <b>the Temple Courtyard into</b> the channel. <b>They would then open the exit, and</b> the blood and dirt <b>would flow out</b> of the Temple Courtyard along with the water, <b>until the floor was</b> completely <b>clean and smooth.
