Passage וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה אֶת־פְּנֵי יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהָיו וַיֹּאמַר לָמָה יְהֹוָה יֶחֱרֶה אַפְּךָ בְּעַמֶּךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּכֹחַ גָּדוֹל וּבְיָד חֲזָקָה: לָמָּה יֹאמְרוּ מִצְרַיִם לֵאמֹר בְּרָעָה הוֹצִיאָם לַהֲרֹג אֹתָם בֶּהָרִים וּלְכַלֹּתָם מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה שׁוּב מֵחֲרוֹן אַפֶּךָ וְהִנָּחֵם עַל־הָרָעָה לְעַמֶּךָ: זְכֹר Following the sin of the Golden Calf, God told Moses that He would annihilate the Jews. <b>Moses pleaded before the Lord, his God, and said: Why, Lord, should Your anger burn against Your own people</b> for whom You care so much; the <b>people whom You have taken out of the land of Egypt,</b> where they were enslaved, <b>with great power and with a strong hand? Why, Lord, should you cause the Egyptians to say "He brought them out of Egypt with bad intent, to kill them</b> right after they received the Torah <b>in the mountains and to annihilate them from upon the face of the earth?" I beg of You, relent from Your burning anger and reconsider the bad thought You had against Your people—do not annihilate them.
