For the day will come when you shall go forth from exile with joy, and you will be brought to your land with peace. Your joy will be so great that it will feel as if the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of evil people, who are compared to thorns, the righteous, who are compared to cypress trees, shall prosper. Instead of evil people, who are compared to thistles, the righteous, who are compared to the myrtle, shall prosper. It shall be for the Lord as a name of greatness, and as an everlasting sign of His love for His people, which shall never be discontinued. The prophet Isaiah said: God said the following: While you are in exile, guard the laws of the Torah and do acts of righteousness to each other, for if you will do so, My salvation will be near and swift to come, and My righteousness will be quick to be revealed. Fortunate is the man who does this and the person who can hold on to it: He who keeps the Shabbat and is careful not to desecrate it and the one who guards his hand from doing any evil. Let the son of a foreigner, a non-Jew who wants to come close to God because of his belief in Him, not say, “Why should I become righteous in my deeds? The Lord will surely keep me separate from His people when they receive their great reward.” Let not the barren say, “Why should I better my ways? I am like a dry tree that cannot give fruit and therefore has no continuity.” For so said God, “Regarding the eunuchs who guard My Shabbat and those who choose to act as I desire and hold strongly to the Torah—My covenant with the Jewish Nation. I will give to them in My house and within My walls—the Holy Temple—a place where their good name will be remembered, which will be greater than the remembrance that comes from having sons and daughters. I will give him an everlasting memorial that will never be discontinued.” And the sons of the foreigners who want to come close to God, to serve Him and to love the name of God and to be His servants, and to all who keep the Shabbat by not desecrating it and hold strong to My covenant—the Torah. You may not slaughter a female among the oxen, sheep, or any other animal on the same day as its male or female offspring. And when you slaughter an offering of thanksgiving to the Lord, you shall slaughter it with the intention that you will follow the laws regarding this sacrifice—that you eat it on that very day, so that it should be an appeasement for you. The thanksgiving sacrifice must be eaten on the very day it was slaughtered; you shall not leave any of it over until morning, or even intend to do so. I am the Lord, who knows a person’s intentions. You shall preserve My commandments by studying them, so that you will do them properly; I am the Lord. Do not desecrate My Holy Name by intentionally not following My will. Keep My commandments even under oppression; when you do so, I will be sanctified among the Children of Israel.
