הַבָּיִת", "english": "When King Solomon finished building the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, all the men of Israel gathered before King Solomon right before the Festival of Sukkot, which is in the seventh month—the month of Tishrei, which is also known as the month of strength. At this time, all the respected elders of Israel came, and the Kohanim carried the Holy Ark from the tent in Jerusalem, where King David had placed it, to the Temple. They brought up the Ark of the Lord and the Tent of Meeting—the Tabernacle, which had been in Gibeon—and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent of Meeting; the Kohanim and the Levites brought them up to the Temple. King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel, who were assembled with him, were with him before the Ark, offering so many sacrifices of sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. The priests brought the Ark, which housed the covenant of the Lord, to its place in the inner sanctum of the House, to the Holy of Holies, to its final destination under the wings of the cherubim that King Solomon had placed there to stand over the Ark. For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the Ark from wall to wall, and the cherubim covered the Ark and its staves from above. The staves were so long that the ends of the staves could be seen protruding beyond the Holy of Holies, pushing slightly against the curtain that hung in front of the inner sanctum—the Holy of Holies. However, the actual staves were not visible from the outside, and they remained there until the day that King Josiah hid the Holy Ark. There was nothing in the Ark except for the two stone Tablets that Moses had placed there when the Jewish Nation were in Horeb—at Mount Sinai—the Tablets by which the Lord entered a covenant with the Children of Israel when they left the land of Egypt. It was when the priests came out of the holy Sanctuary, after placing the Ark in the Holy of Holies, that a heavenly cloud filled the House of the Lord, demonstrating that God approved of the work and rested His Divine Presence in the newly constructed Temple. The priests were unable to stand and do the service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord—as represented by the cloud—filled the house of the Lord. Then King Solomon said, “Now I know that God is dwelling here, for the Lord has said that He would come to dwell from within the thick fog. I have surely built a house as a permanent abode for You, a place for You to dwell forever.” The king turned his face around to face the people and blessed the entire congregation of Israel, and the entire congregation of Israel stood as he blessed them. He said, “Blessed is the Lord, God of Israel, Who spoke with His mouth promising my father, King David, that he would have a son who would build the Temple and has fulfilled this promise with His hand of kindness.
