As the Jewish Nation finished mourning the passing of Moses, Joshua commanded the officers of the nation to tell the nation to prepare to cross the river. He said: Go around within the camp, and command the people to prepare for entry into the land. Say to them, \"Prepare for yourselves all the provisions and weaponry that you may need, because in another three days you will be crossing this Jordan River to come and take possession of the land that the Lord, your God, is giving you to inherit.\" Joshua then spoke to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, who would be inheriting the land on the eastern side of the river, saying: Remember that which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you after you requested to settle on the eastern side of the Jordan. Moses told you the word of God, saying, \"The Lord, your God, is giving you a place of rest as you asked for, and He will give you this land that is on the eastern side of the Jordan River.\" Your wives, your children, and all of your cattle shall settle in the land that Moses gave you across the Jordan, on the eastern side. However, all the mighty warriors among you shall cross the Jordan to the west, armed and prepared. You will go ahead of your brothers in battle, and you will help them conquer the Canaanite land. You will do so until the Lord gives your brothers a place in which to rest, just as He has given you, and they too shall take possession of the land that the Lord, your God, is giving them. Only then will you return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of it—the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan River, to the east, in the direction of the rising of the sun. They answered Joshua by saying: We will do everything that you have commanded us, and we will go wherever you will send us. Just as we fully listened to Moses, so shall we listen to you. We only ask of the Lord, your God, that He be with you just as He was with Moses. "text": "The following reading is about the offerings that were brought by each of the leaders of the twelve tribes during the dedication of the Tabernacle in the month of Nissan. The actual work of building the Tabernacle was completed on the 25th day of Kislev, the same date on which the Chanukah miracle took place more than a thousand years later, during the Second Temple period. In addition, after the Jewish Nation defeated the Syrian-Greek army, they cleaned up the Temple, which had been defiled by the Syrian-Greeks, and renewed the service in the Temple during the days of Chanukah."

"english": "It was on the day Moses finished erecting the Tabernacle; he anointed it and all its vessels and sanctified them, and he anointed the altar and all its vessels and sanctified them. The leaders of Israel, the heads of their ancestral tribal households, approached to bring gifts for the Tabernacle; they were the leaders of the tribes and they were the ones who stood with Moses and Aaron to help count the Jewish Nation. They brought their gift-offerings before the Lord. It consisted of six covered wagons and twelve oxen, a wagon from every two leaders, and an ox from each one of the leaders; they approached and brought them to the Tabernacle. Moses was unsure as to what to do with this offering, for he would not accept it unless commanded to do so. Therefore, the Lord spoke to Moses and told him to tell the Jewish Nation what would be done with the gift-offerings: Take the offering from them, and it shall be used for the service of the Tent of Meeting—the Tabernacle. You shall give them to the Levites; give to each man according to the amount needed for his work. Moses took the covered wagons and the oxen and gave them to the Levites. This is how Moses split the offering. He gave two of the wagons and four of the oxen to the Levites who were from the family of Gershon, the son of Levi, according to what was needed for their work of carrying the curtains and coverings of the Tabernacle. He gave four wagons and eight oxen to the Levites who were from the family of Merari, the son of Levi, according to what was needed for their work of carrying the pillars of the Tabernacle; all this was under the direction of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the High priest. However, he did not give from the gift to the Levites who were from the family of Kehat. For the work placed on them involved transporting the holy items including the Holy Ark, which they were to carry only on their shoulders.
