In the eighteenth year of his reign, King Josiah decided to renovate the Holy Temple. During the renovation, they found one of the Torah scrolls written by Moses and it was rolled to the section in the book of Deuteronomy that speaks of the punishments that God warned He will bring upon the Jewish Nation if they will not follow His ways. King Josiah took this as a warning that the people must return to the Lord. The following Haftarah relates that King Josiah read the above mentioned portion of the Torah to the Jewish Nation, and that they repented and cleaned the Holy Temple of all impure items that had been placed there by the previous wicked kings.
