This festival shall always be in the spring season, <b>because it was in the month of</b> Nissan, during the spring season <b>that you went out of Egypt.</b> When God killed all the firstborn sons and all the firstborn male animals of the Egyptians, He passed over the Jewish homes and saved the firstborn of the Jewish Nation. Therefore, God commands you: <b>Every</b> firstborn son who is the <b>first to open the womb</b> of his mother <b>shall be Mine,</b> and you must redeem him from a Kohen when he is thirty days old. Also whenever any of <b>your livestock,</b> whether of <b>an ox or a sheep</b> shall give birth <b>to a male,</b> if this offspring was the <b>first to open</b> its mother's womb, it shall also be Mine, and must be given to a Kohen. Among non-kosher animals, <b>you shall redeem</b> the male <b>firstborn</b> donkey by exchanging it for <b>a lamb,</b> which you will give to the Kohen; if you do <b>not redeem</b> it, <b>you shall decapitate it,</b> causing you financial loss—just as you wished to cause financial loss to the Kohen. Every son <b>of yours who is a firstborn</b> to his mother, <b>you shall redeem</b> from any Kohen for five shekels (about 100 grams of pure silver). When the Jewish Nation will come up to the Holy Temple to celebrate the festivals, <b>they shall not appear before Me empty</b> handed; rather, they shall bring an animal as a burnt-offering. <b>Six days you shall work, and on the seventh day you shall rest</b> by not doing any work. <b>You shall rest from plowing and from harvesting.</b> And you shall <b>make for yourself a Festival of Weeks</b> (Shavuot), during which you shall bring the two loaves of bread, which is <b>the first</b> offering that is brought <b>from the</b> new <b>wheat harvest</b> in the Holy Temple. You shall also observe <b>the Festival of the Gathering</b> of your crop (Sukkot), which takes place <b>at the time</b> when the new <b>year</b> begins (Tishrei). <b>Three times a year</b> during the aforementioned festivals of Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot, <b>all your males shall appear before</b> the Master of the universe, <b>the Lord, Who is the God of Israel,</b> by coming to the holy Temple in Jerusalem. <b>For I will drive out all</b> nations from <b>before you and widen your borders</b> in the Land of Israel, which will cause many of you to live far from the Holy Temple. <b>No man</b> of the other nations <b>will desire your land</b> and scheme to obtain it <b>when you go up to appear before the Lord, your God, these three times</b> of the year. Therefore, you can go to the Holy Temple without worry. You shall not slaughter or sprinkle the blood of <b>My Pesach-offering</b> while you still have <b>chametz</b> (leaven) in your possession.
