הַדְלָקַת הַמְּנוֹרָה
THE LIGHTING OF THE MENORAH
The lights of the Chanukah menorah are kindled on each of the eight nights of Chanukah—one on the first night, two on the second night, and so on.
The first light should be positioned on the right-most branch of the menorah, the second light should be positioned to its left, and so on.
A separate shamash (servant light) is used to kindle the lights of the menorah. One may not use a menorah light for any purpose—even for kindling other menorah lights.
Chabad custom is to place the menorah on a chair or the like, within a doorway, next to the doorpost opposite the mezuzah. The flames should be more than 3 tefachim (approximately 9 1/2 inches) above the ground, and ideally less than 10 tefachim (approximately 31 1/2 inches).
Say the following blessings before lighting the menorah.
